Mattia Campus Named Bobcat Athlete Of The Week

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – Sophomore Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy) of the Georgia College men’s tennis team was named Bobcat Athlete of the Week, for his outstanding efforts on the court.

Campus was awarded athlete of the week after he cruised through the ITA Southeast Regionals over the weekend. Campus played in singles Pool B, were he advanced to the championship match, which was canceled due to time constraints.

He began his journey against Newberry College’s Ross Sons with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Campus turned in two straight-setters over Marc Hofer of Lander University 6-2, 6-4 and Francis Marion University’s Jannik Rottlingsberger 7-5, 7-5. The sophomore continued his dominance with a win over Fernando Espana of Newberry 6-4, 6-3. In order to advance to the championship match, Campus had to battle teammate Kyle Kinsler (Suwanee, Ga.), beating him 6-1, 6-4.
