Mary Persons Wins Another Thriller in Overtime to Advance to the Elite Eight

The 16-4 Mary Persons Bulldogs Boys Soccer Team defeated West Hall 4-3 in OT in the second round of the GHSA AAA State Championships

FORSYTH, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – On Friday night behind Monroe County Middle School, the Mary Persons Bulldogs Boys Soccer team defeated the West Hall Spartans 4-3 in overtime to advance to the GHSA AAA Quarterfinals.

After being down 2-0, Mary Persons grabbed a goal with just 1:11 left in the half to cut the deficit to 2-1 at halftime. In the second half, after the Spartans took at 3-1 lead with a penalty kick, the Bulldogs scored two more goals, including a corner kick in the 78th minute to tie the game at three goals a piece.

One minute into the second overtime period, the Bulldogs score their fourth goal of the night to take their first lead of the game 4-3. Mary Persons would go onto win by that same score.

The Bulldogs will head to Oconee County Tuesday for their GHSA AAA Elite Eight matchup.
