(CNN)- Former Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said she believes President Donald Trump should be removed from office, citing concerns about his rhetoric, foreign policy decisions, and leadership.

Greene calls Trump remarks “madness”

In an interview, Greene criticized statements she attributed to the president, saying they called for the destruction of an entire civilization. She described the comments as “absolute madness” and said they should not be tolerated.

“How can any person that is mentally stable call for an entire civilization of people to be murdered?” Greene said.

Greene said the remarks, which she said were shared publicly, raised serious concerns about the president’s judgment and stability. She said even discussing such actions privately would be troubling, but sharing them publicly elevated those concerns.

“This should never be tolerated,” she said. “The conversation needs to be had.”

Greene said she believes the president is “out of control” and called on members of the administration to step in and take responsibility.

Greene points to diplomacy over threats

She contrasted the rhetoric with what she described as diplomatic efforts, pointing to Vice President JD Vance and his role in ceasefire negotiations. Greene said negotiations should guide U.S. policy rather than threats of violence.

She also expressed concern about the potential impact on members of the military, saying service members should not be put in a position to carry out actions targeting civilians.

“We should never have a commander in chief that would call for the men and women of the United States military to wipe out an entire civilization,” Greene said.

Greene said she had previously supported the president for his policies but said that changed once he took office. She said she no longer supports what she described as a shift away from a focus on avoiding foreign conflicts.

“What we campaigned on was no more foreign wars,” Greene said, adding that she does not support what she described as a move toward war in Iran.

She said she believes many Americans, particularly younger voters, do not support such a conflict and warned of long-term economic consequences, including rising oil prices and broader financial impacts.

Greene also pointed to inflation and rising gas prices, saying both political parties share responsibility for economic challenges. She said the declining value of the dollar has affected Americans’ purchasing power.

Republican divisions highlighted

She also addressed political dynamics within the Republican Party, saying some members are hesitant to speak out against the president. Greene said fear of political consequences, including primary challenges, may be a factor.

“I’m one of the few honest Republicans willing to talk about it,” she said.

Greene also referenced disagreements with the president over other issues, including the handling of information related to Jeffrey Epstein, and said those disputes contributed to her loss of support.

In addition, she commented on political trends, pointing to what she described as low Republican voter turnout and shifting election results as signs of dissatisfaction among voters.

Greene said she believes Americans are frustrated with political leadership and want a focus on domestic issues rather than foreign conflicts.

“Regular Americans are sick and tired of all of this,” she said.

Her comments came during an interview on CNN’s “The Situation Room.”
