Man who broke into Washington County banks arrested, charged with burglary

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man who broke into two banks in Washington County is now in custody.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, 37 year old Matthews Stephens was arrested at a home in Deepstep on Monday. He was wanted for breaking into Citizens Bank of the South and George D. Warthan Bank in Sandersville on Sunday.

The post goes on to say, Sandersville police located Stephens and went after him, but he got away. Monday, both Sandersville police and Washington County deputies found and arrested Stephens. He’s been charged with burglary and theft by taking.
