Man wanted for malicious wounding in Charlottesville turns himself in at Monroe County Sheriff’s Office
FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- A suspect wanted by the FBI and U.S. Marshals for malicious wounding, turned himself into the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Police say Alex Ramos was one of the men caught on camera beating a black man in Charlottesville, Virginia. This was the day James Fields Jr. drove his car through a crowd of counter-protesters, killing Heather Heyer.
According to sergeant Lawson Bittick from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Ramos got a call from the FBI letting him know he had a warrant out for his arrest, so Ramos turned himself in Monday night.
Sergeant Bittick said Monroe County Officers were looking for Ramos, but just didn’t tell anyone.
“We weren’t voicetress about it. We were aware that he had warrants,'” Bittick. “We were aware that he lived in northern Monroe County, but based on information obtained from the U.S. Marshal service, he was not in the area, so they had a general idea of where he was, but he was not in Monroe county the whole time.”
Ramos waved his rights in court, so he is waiting to be transported to Virginia Police. Lawson said it may take a week before he leaves Monroe County.
