Man sentenced after brutal assault on pregnant woman in Perry
22-year-old Marquavious Rashawn Manning pleaded guilty to false imprisonment on July 7, just before jury selection was scheduled to begin in his trial.

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Perry man has been sentenced to prison for false imprisonment in connection to a brutal domestic attack that occurred while he was out on bond for a previous armed offense, according to the Houston County District Attorney’s Office.
22-year-old Marquavious Rashawn Manning pleaded guilty to false imprisonment on July 7, just before jury selection was scheduled to begin in his trial. Manning was sentenced to 15 years, with the first 10 years to be served in the Georgia Department of Corrections.
The charges stem from a violent domestic assault that took place on Dec. 16, 2024. The victim, who was pregnant at the time, was taken to a Perry hospital by family members after sustaining multiple injuries.
According to the victim’s account, the assault began while she and Manning were passengers in a vehicle traveling from Montezuma to Perry. Manning reportedly became enraged after seeing a text message from a male friend of the victim’s sister on her phone. He accused her of infidelity and questioned the paternity of her unborn child before repeatedly punching her in the face during the ride.
When they arrived at an apartment complex on Kings Chapel Road in Perry, Manning allegedly smashed the victim’s phone and assaulted her again inside her own vehicle. When she attempted to flee, he chased her, dragged her back, and continued going through her phone.
The victim eventually escaped in her vehicle. She later reported that Manning had also strangled her earlier during the drive, while they were still in Macon County.
Law enforcement observed the victim had a busted lip that required stitches, a broken nose, scratches on her ears, and marks consistent with strangulation. Manning was located shortly afterward and taken into custody.
At the time of the attack, Manning was out on bond for a separate violent incident involving a different, unrelated victim.
District Attorney Eric Edwards released the following statement:
“This year, our community has seen firsthand the deadly consequences of ignoring the warning signs of domestic violence. The facts of this case are horrifying and all the more tragic because they reflect a pattern we’ve seen too often: escalating violence and a victim trying to survive. This defendant beat, strangled, and terrorized a pregnant woman while he was already out on bond for pointing a loaded gun in someone’s face. There is no excuse, and there will be no tolerance. This office is fully committed to holding abusers accountable, and to supporting our law enforcement partners in using every available tool to prevent the next tragedy before it happens.”
