Man found unconscious on Georgia highway 401 dies from injuries

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office found him on GA 401 Southbound

MONROE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An investigation is underway after a man found lying near I-75/GA SR 401 early Saturday died in the hospital.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, someone called about a man lying on the ground near mile marker 180 on August 3 at roughly 2:12 a.m.

Deputies were dispatched and were able to find the man. The sheriff’s office says the man was unconscious and suffering from multiple injuries, including head wounds. Public Information Officer Anna Watkins says he died hours after being taken to a Macon hospital.

The man has been identified as Darryl Thompson of Warner Robins. The sheriff’s office says his family has been notified and the incident is still under investigation.
