Man dies in Warner Robins house fire

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 34-year-old Warner Robins man died in a house fire Thursday morning.

According to a news release, the Warner Robins Fire Department arrived at the one-story house on Chuck Circle to find “moderate smoke” coming from the residence.  Warner Robins police officers were already on the scene and confirmed there was one person inside the home. He was identified as Terence Files.

A window had been broken to attempt to rescue Files, but smoke deterred the efforts.  After the firefighters arrived, they were able to enter through the broken window  and through the front of the home.  When they made it inside the home, they found Files unresponsive and pulled him from the house.

Houston County EMS began CPR but was unable to revive him.  Firefighters ensured the fire was extinguished and smoke cleared from the house.

Investigators say the victim put something on the stove and then fell asleep.  Smoke detectors were in the home but they were not operational.

The man’s mother arrived home from work around 7:30 A.M. to find the smoke filled house.  She called 911 to alert dispatchers that her son was in the home.  Fire damaged was contained to the kitchen, but smoke damage was found throughout the house.
