Man dies after falling into hopper at Crawford County sand mine
ROBERTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man is dead after he fell into a hopper at a sand mine in Crawford County on Monday.
The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Atlanta Sand & Supply Company on Sand Pit Road around 5:30 a.m.
Deputies found 62-year-old Richard Carl Anderson had fallen into a hopper. Anderson, who was from Peach County and an employee at the sand mine, was pronounced dead at the scene. The body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.
This is an ongoing investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office. The U.S. Department of Labor Mine Safety and Health Administration were notified and are conducting their own investigation into this incident.
