Police said Houston County 911 received a call at about 9:28 p.m. Thursday reporting shots fired at the Houston Lake Apartments.
Officers arrived and began checking the area on foot where the shots were believed to have been fired. During their search, they located an adult male behind the complex’s 1700 building who had suffered a gunshot wound.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Houston County Coroner’s Office. Authorities said the victim has been identified, but his name has not yet been released as officials work to notify next of kin.
Investigators with the Perry Police Department, assisted by crime scene investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, are continuing to process the scene and follow up on possible leads.
Authorities said they do not believe there is an active threat to the public.
