Man dead after firing at deputies during stolen vehicle chase in Warner Robins

Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle around 2:04 a.m. on September 3 when two people ran away on foot, the sheriff’s office said.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man is dead after he fired at deputies while fleeing from a stolen vehicle early Wednesday morning in Warner Robins, according to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle around 2:04 a.m. on September 3 near the intersection of Houston Lake Road and Thomson Road in Centerville when two people ran away on foot, the sheriff’s office said. A woman was quickly apprehended, while a man was found hiding nearby.

As deputies tried to take the man into custody, he fired a weapon at them. Deputies returned fire, hitting the suspect.

The male suspect was taken to a Warner Robins hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

No deputies were injured in the exchange, according to Sheriff Matt Moulton.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation.
