Man arrested on theft, exploitation charges in Macon memorial services case

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A man has been arrested on multiple charges, including theft by deception and exploitation of elderly persons, in connection with a scheme involving memorial services, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
72-year-old Preston Brown was arrested on March 30 on outstanding warrants.
According to a news release, Brown operates a business called “P. Brown Memorials” and allegedly accepted money from customers while promising to provide slabs or gravestones for their loved ones. Authorities said the services were not completed.
Investigators said victims have come forward from multiple areas outside Middle Georgia, and at least 20 victims have been identified so far. Additional incidents have been discovered dating back to 2024, and officials said charges remain pending as the investigation continues.
