Man arrested in connection to 2024 murder of Mitchell Edward Wells

According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, CID Investigators served an arrest warrant on Khalid Rashid Harper for murder. 

(UPDATE 2/28/2025) A man was arrested for the death of 61-year-old Mitchell Edward Wells. The incident occurred on January 23, 2024, at 2:17 a.m., within the 4000 block of Forest Avenue West.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, CID Investigators served an arrest warrant on Khalid Rashid Harper for murder. Harper was identified as a suspect in connection to the death of Wells.

The news release states that investigators were able to connect Harper to the shooting death of Wells. Harper is currently in custody at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

On May 15, 2024, U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Harper who was wanted in Bibb County in connection to the shooting death of Rashad Reddick that occurred on April 19, 2024. Harper was denied bond. Harper has been charged with murder.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death that occurred just after 2:15 a.m. Tuesday in the 4000 block of Forest Ave. West.

Deputies responded to a call about a person lying unresponsive in the roadway. When they arrived on the scene, they found a man with what appeared to be a single stab wound. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The victim was identified as 61-year-old Mitchell Edward Wells, who is believed to be homeless.

Sheriff’s Office investigators are working to determine what led to the stabbing. The victim’s body will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an autopsy.
