Man arrested for trading with inmates at Washington State Prison

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A man was arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly trading with inmates at Washington State Prison, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
In a news release, the sheriff’s office said the incident happened around 3:30 a.m. May 27, when deputies spotted a suspicious person with a backpack in a cornfield near the prison.
Deputies set up a perimeter, and a K-9 team tracked the suspect through the field. By 5:30 a.m., the suspect was located and taken into custody.
19-year-old Maurice Stewart of Albany was arrested and charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute, four counts of items prohibited by the warden, and one count of trading with inmates.
Authorities said Stewart had two bottles of promethazine, one pound of marijuana, four pounds of tobacco, five cellphones with accessories, and other miscellaneous items.
