MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A major film production recently concluded its filming in downtown Macon after making a positive impact on the local economy and businesses.
The film crew was spotted breaking down the set at the Terminal Station on Thursday, marking the end of their filming in the area.
Last week, the Tubman Museum’s parking lot was rented out to set up trailers in preparation for the shooting, which took place this week. The presence of the production has significantly affected the area, with the general manager of Hotel Forty Five noting its positive effects not only on the hotel but also on the entire downtown community.
“It’s been big,” Gary Byrd said. “It’s been a huge spike. We went to 100% occupancy, and then they have been good for everyone for the city, for all the hotels. We’re not the only one feeling that; everyone got some. It’s good to see here in the city.”
Elizabeth Ragan, the co-owner of Elizabeth’s Vintage Boutique, shared how the cast and crews visits to her boutique positively impacted their overall sales for a couple of weeks.
“This was great because they really spent, normally, I make so much a week, but them shopping here, and I’m sure they did shop locally, too,” she said. “It’s really helped. It helps the local business like small local businesses like us.”
Byrd says it’s great for Macon.
“The mayor’s done a great job with his vision and also Visit Macon,” he said. “[It] does a great job of marketing the city. We are looking to get everyone’s buy-in to what we’re doing down here.”
