Macon’s Armstrong World Industries Now on Superfund List

A macon business has been named a hazardous waste site.  The Environmental Protection Agency recommended about a year ago that Armstrong World Industries, a ceiling tile manufacturer, be added to the “superfund” list.  Superfund is a federal program that investigates and cleans up the most complex hazardous waste sites in the country.

In April, high levels of toxic ceiling tile coatingknown as PCB were found in more than 25 acres in South Bibb County, stretching across three old landfills, two of which belong to Armstrong World Industries.

The Environmental Protection Agency has added six new hazardous waste sites in the southeast.

41NBC reached out to Armstrong World Industries and the EPA for further comment, but they haven’t returned our calls.
