Macon’s 5×5 Program Sprucing Up Pleasant Hill

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Five blocks of the Pleasant Hill neighborhood are the focus of the next round of the City of Macon’s 5×5 program.

On Friday, Mayor Robert Reichert along with community and local church leaders met to talk about the progress and check out some of the work that has already been done. So far in this latest round of the program, six dilapidated and abandoned homes have been torn down.

Reichert says he’s happy to see the community and local churches working together on this project to make a better Pleasant Hill.

“We’re hoping that gives encouragement to the neighbors and the people that live here so they do more to help clean the place up,” Reichert said. “[The program gives] a sense of hope and optimism and restoring pride in the neighborhood and where you live.”

Reichert adds other parts of the program include installing new street, lights, and painting curbs. City departments will also focus their efforts in the block area bordered by Calloway Drive, Rogers Place, Culver Street, and Forest Avenue during the program.

This marks the third time the 5×5 program has gone through Pleasant Hill.
