MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dust off your sneakers and bust out your dance moves. Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller and Macon Mental Health Matters Andrea Cooke have announced details for the 3rd Annual Mayor’s Sneaker Ball on Tuesday.

Mayor Miller says the last two balls have been incredible and that the ball is an opportunity to let yourself go a little bit and have fun together.

Proceeds raised from the ball will go toward the Lester M. Miller Academic Scholarships.

“Last year, we awarded students thousands of dollars in scholarships,” Miller said. “Three students. This year, we’ve increased our goal to continue that great effort with all the hopes of these ticket sales that we have this year, the people having a good time, and we want to double that number to six.”

Andrea Cooke from Macon Mental Health Matters says the Sneaker Ball Committee has partnered with Hotel 45 this year and that they’re looking for another key partner.

We also spoke with Anikitia Abram and Maiesha Clark, who are both on the Sneaker Ball Committee this year.

“It’s a family affair,” Clark said. “So you can bring your whole family, and it’s just a lot of fun and everybody in the community getting together and just having a good time, whatever’s going on outside is outside, and we’re just at the place, having a good time. You feel free because you don’t have to feel like, so even though you have on a ball gown and a suit, it’s just a piece of freedom.”

“Immediately you started out partying and having a good time and meeting community members that you probably would never run across, people that you might see on Facebook, but you never met them in real life, they’re going to be at the party and you want to see them,” Abram said. “You want to be with them and I’m telling you, everyone was so down to earth, which is why I wanted to be on the planning committee.”

“Everybody who’s everybody is at the Mayor’s Ball,” Clark added.

“And the fashions, the fashions, they are going to be amazing,” Abram said. “There’s a lot of fashion guys, a lot of fashion girls, and you’re going to want to be here. You want to see. I always say, I like to see people after hours and when they’re having a little good time in them, that’s when you get to know the real person.”

“I would say buy your tickets early, because we expect this to be a sold out event,” Mayor Miller said.

Friday, November 22 is the final day to buy tickets, and tickets will not be sold at the door.

Individual Balcony Seats start at $40, with more expensive table options available.

The ball with be held on Saturday, December 14 at Macon City Auditorium, located at 415 1st Street, from 8 to 11 p.m.
