#Macon30: Creating conversation after string of murders

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – After multiple murder incidents over the past week, and a total of nine homicide investigations in the Macon-Bibb County area, Danny Glover and a group of community activist launched ‘#Macon30.’

The social media campaign aims to raise awareness of the high volume of crime in Macon-Bibb area, with the intent to get people talking about solutions.

During the entire month of June, the group will use all 30 days to knock on doors, create conversations online and spread the word about ending violence.

According to Macon-Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones, 12 homicides investigations were totaled for 2013 alone.

With the number of homicides increasing, Jones hopes the community does not surpass that number this year.

“I say all the time that this community needs pray, and plenty of it,” says Jones.

Glover says that’s what the group is there for.

“We want to engage the community. We want to give them practical solutions, and practical ideas that they can do in their own communities,” says Glover.

They hope to get community members talking, and create solutions will continue for years to come.

Use #Macon30 on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to join the conversation online.
