Macon Woman Has First Reported Case of Fungal Meningitis in Georgia

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 66-year-old Macon woman has the first reported case of fungal meningitis in Georgia linked to a batch of tainted steroids.

According to a news release on the Georgia Department of Health’s website, the woman is clinically stable and is under the care of an infectious disease physician. She is not in the hospital.

The patient is one who reported having symptoms after receiving an injection for back pain at the Forsyth Street Ambulatory Surgery Center in Macon. This type of meningitis is not contagious.
