Piedmont Macon Honors Local Women With “community Hero Award”

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Family, friends, and staff members at Piedmont Macon gathered Thursday to surprise a remarkable individual with the “Community Hero Award.”

This award was established two years ago to honor local individuals who work tirelessly to improve the quality of life in Middle Georgia. Patricia Prime was the deserving recipient this quarter.

Prime is dedicated to educating the public about maternal mortality, particularly in the Black community. Prime’s efforts are driven by personal tragedy—the loss of her mother due to childbirth complications.

Patricia spoke about a recent case in which one mother’s relentless pleas for care went unheard. The findings revealed severe conditions that could have resulted in tragic outcomes had she not persisted in seeking care.

“We cannot go to sleep on our moms,” she said. “We have to stay awake and make sure that they are safe.”

Every year, she organizes  the “It Takes a Village Maternal Health Expo,” which aims to highlight health inequalities and improve maternal outcomes in the community.

As part of her recognition, Prime also received a $500 donation from Piedmont Macon to benefit a charity of her choice.
