Macon Voter Rally Draws Hundreds
Hundreds of young voters showed up to The Hummingbird in downtown Macon to learn more about the candidates running in next month’s elections.
Candidates for Macon Mayor, City Council, and the State Senate participated in Tuesday’s rally. The Macon Matters Voters Rally was designed to help residents get to know those running.
Victor Stanley with The Hummingbird says, ” One of the by-products of owning a bar is we hear everybody’s opinion all the time, and it’s just refreshing instead of just hearing opinions and whining there’s a brunch of young people who are willing to do something about it. “
The event used popular local musical acts to get people through the door to help them learn more about issues plaguing the community. An idea that participants say worked.
“It’s going to be the younger people that’s going to separate some of the older candidates, and we need a lot of new blood to come out and support some of these new and fresh faces that can hopefully change our community,” says participant Michael Dee.
Organizers say they hope to hold similar events as the election draws closer.
