MACON, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – Week seven of the high school football season brought no shortage of standout performances, and the Macon Touchdown Club recognized several local athletes for their efforts Monday night.

The Back of the Week award went to First Presbyterian Day senior quarterback Major Simmons. Simmons completed 9 of 10 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 103 yards and another score on just 12 carries in the Vikings’ 42-7 homecoming win over Mount de Sales.

The Lineman of the Week was Northeast senior linebacker Talien Sampson, who recorded 15 tackles, including three for a loss, and a fumble recovery. Sampson also had a sack and applied pressure on Dublin’s final two downs to secure the Raiders’ 20-0 shutout win Thursday night.

The Special Teams Player of the Week went to Jones County senior J.R. Clark. The cornerback and wide receiver returned the second-half kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown, helping the Greyhounds to a 46-42 homecoming victory over Stockbridge.

Peach County head coach Marquis Westbrook was in attendance as well, as the club honored its latest group of student-athletes.

Central Fellowship Christian Academy head coach Jake Walls also spoke on his 3-4 Lancers squad during the meeting.

The evening’s special guest speaker was Georgia Tech senior offensive assistant Brian Bohannon. A Macon native, Bohannon played wide receiver at Georgia from 1990 to 1993. He later earned multiple coach of the year honors during his nine seasons at Kennesaw State, where he built the Owls’ program from the ground up, compiling a 71-30 overall record as head coach.
