UGA’s Kirby Smart headlines Macon Touchdown Club’s Spring Jamboree

Some of the best high school football players and coaches joined MTC members in attendance to earn awards and listen to keynote speaker Georgia Football Head Coach Kirby Smart.
Macon Touchdown Club 2024 Spring Jamboree

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Methodist Home for Children in Macon hosted the Macon Touchdown Club’s annual Spring Jamboree Monday in front of a packed auditorium full of members, some of the best high school football players and coaches in the state, and keynote speaker University of Georgia Head Football Coach Kirby Smart, who made his ninth straight appearance at the Spring Jamboree.

Middle Georgia student athletes honored included:

Macon Touchdown Club Super Seven award winner:

Duke Watson from Mary Persons High School. The Bulldogs’ running back amassed more than 5,500 yards on the ground, 74 touchdowns and 444 points in his career in Forsyth, all Mary Persons records. Watson signed his letter of intent to play for the University of Louisville.

 

OrthoGeorgia Players of the Year:

-Back of the Year: Jakhari Williams, FPD’s quarterback who led the Vikings to a GIAA 4A state championship, completing 124 of 201 passes. He amassed 2,100 yards and 21 touchdowns, and only threw one interception. Williams gained 674 yards and had 15 scores on the ground. The Vikings’ QB grabbed the Super Seven award back in 2022 and will be heading to New York to play for Syracuse University.

– Bill Turner Lineman of the Year: Jacobi Jones, linebacker from Mary Persons High School. The Bulldog accounted for 144 tackles, 9.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 Sacks. Jones will play his college ball at Georgia State University.

– Special Teams Player of the Year: Westside High School’s Tony Mathis. He helped the Seminoles by blocking five extra points and two punts this season. Mathis signed his letter of intent to play at Ohio University.

Rutland Hurricane Christiaan Krietzer was also honored in recognition of his appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.

Gabe Howard – Mount De Sales Academy
Griffin Moore – Stratford Academy
Henry Lewis – Academy of Classical Education (ACE)
Patrick Thompson – First Presbyterian Day
Silas Risper – Westside High School
These student athletes will be receiving monetary value for college from the club to pay for school.

 

Marvin Davis Coach of the Year: FPD Vikings Head Coach Brett Collier. Collier won the GIAA 4A state title in his first season with the Vikings.

 

Bobby Pope Coach of the Year: Kevin Smith, Head Coach of the Perry Panthers, who won the GHSA 4A state championship for the first time in 70 years. Smith holds a 60-25 record with three region championships in his time at Perry.
