“macon Staycation” Kicks Off Today

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – As the Fourth of July approaches, small businesses in downtown Macon typically face a slower week. However, a local organization is making sure if you choose to stay home for the holidays, you can still experience the best party of the summer.

This week, downtown Macon is open for business, providing a great opportunity to explore the area. With the “Macon Staycation,” friends and family can enjoy a week filled with fun activities and exclusive deals.

The goal is all about getting people residents who are staying home for the holiday excited to come downtown and help local businesses during the holiday week.

To participate, click here and purchase a Staycation Pass for just $10. This pass unlocks discounts and offers at participating businesses across downtown.

On Thursday and Friday, you can get 20% off at The Bohemian Den and a special coffee flight at Sweet Eleanor’s on Friday.

“If we come up with a way to give people who are staying and making this year for vacation a chance to do some really cool things downtown that may be outside the box,” Scott Mitchell, owner of both establishments, said. “It may not be something they normally get to do that week the week of 4th of July.”

Eli Weldy, the Assistant GM at Hotel 45 ELI, echoed the sentiment.

“Downtown Macon is fun,” she said. “This is the place to be. It’s growing. It’s developing all the time. There’s new businesses coming up, and then you never know what kind of fun little surprise you’re going to find to do and this is one of those things.”

Emily Hopkins, Vice President of External Affairs at New Town Macon, pointed out that even during the holiday week, many local businesses will remain open.

“The vast majority of them do remain open, but a lot of times people don’t realize that because they do think it’s a vacation week, but we want people to understand that downtown is open and ready for business and that there’s a lot of fun and exciting stuff to do this week,” she said.

With a full schedule of activities and deals lined up through Sunday, including free entry and a scavenger hunt Tuesday at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, and a karaoke night with $5 Serenity Punch at Serenity Entertainment Complex on Wednesday, there’s no shortage of fun.
