Macon State College and Middle Georgia College Consolidation

The Board of Regents’ decision to merge several colleges in Georgia has leaders at Macon State College and Middle Georgia College optimistic about their futures. Middle Georgia College and Macon State College are about 47 miles away from each other, but in less than 2 years the 47-mile distance between the two colleges won’t matter. According to the Board of Regents, the two schools will be consolidated. The Board of Regents hopes the consolidation will better serve the students and areas of the state more effectively. President of Middle Georgia College, Dr. Michael Stoy, says the consolidation will help both schools.

“Looking at this from a broad perspective it really brings a lot of great resources. We may be able to deliver those resources but it may take us 10-15 years to get there. Through consolidation and focusing our resources we are going to get there almost immediately”, said Dr. Stoy.

“President Stoy and I have a good relationship and we pledge to work very strongly together our teams are going to get together soon and get to know each other and figure out where the strengths are and how we can build on each others strengths” said Dr. Jeff Allbritten, President of Macon State
College.

Most of the important changes regarding the two schools are expected to be made within 12 to 18 months. The Board of Regents’ plan is to have President of Macon State College, Dr. Jeff Albritten, lead both schools.
