Macon shelters prepare to house the homeless ahead of freezing temperatures
In response to the freezing temperatures forecasted for Macon, local organizations, including the Salvation Army of Greater Macon, Brookdale Resource Center, Loaves and Fishes Ministry, and Daybreak, are joining forces to provide shelter to those in need.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – In response to the freezing temperatures forecasted for Macon, local organizations, including the Salvation Army of Greater Macon, Brookdale Resource Center, Loaves and Fishes Ministry, and Daybreak, are joining forces to provide shelter to those in need.
“We’re not turning anyone away,” Latresa White, the Social Services Director of the Salvation Army of Greater Macon, said.
The Salvation Army has become a sanctuary for people like Elizabeth Deguzman, who’s called the Salvation Army of Greater Macon her home since August. While she waits for her financial situation to turn around, she says she’s just grateful for a warm place to go.
“It gives us a place to warm up and shower,” she said.
Sister Theresa Sullivan, the Director of DePaul USA Daybreak, community support is important.
“Donating items is important, but also volunteering your time to help is appreciated too,” she said.
With more than 316 beds available across these organizations, there is a strong network of support for anyone in need of shelter.
Those seeking shelter can visit the Brookdale Resource Center or The Salvation Army of Greater Macon between 4 and 6 p.m. daily.
