Macon Restaurant Adds Temporary 50 Cent Egg Surcharge Due To Rising Costs

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Popular breakfast spot Macon Bagels announced on social media that it will be adding a temporary 50-cent surcharge to eggs due to rising costs. This marks the first price adjustment in two years for the locally owned business.

Owner Lauren Bone explained that while the restaurant typically tries to absorb cost increases, the price of eggs has quadrupled in recent weeks, making it difficult to avoid passing some of that expense onto customers.

“It’s not new as a business owner having to keep an eye on ingredient prices and just being flexible, and pivoting,” Bone said. “Obviously, eggs are a huge part of our business as a breakfast place. But luckily, we’ve had our customers be very understanding, and they see that it’s across the board everywhere. So I think people get it, luckily.”

Bone hopes the increase won’t deter loyal patrons from continuing to enjoy their favorite breakfast items. She also encouraged Middle Georgians to support locally owned businesses as they navigate the impact of rising food prices.
