Macon Residents React to News of Osama bin Laden’s Death
The news spread like wildfire across the entire world of Osama bin Laden’s death last night, and today, residents in Macon gave their thoughts on what this means for our country.
Most people tuned in Sunday night when President Obama broke in with the news that an elite team had found, and killed, bin Laden. But Joe Giordano heard the news Monday morning, and says he was happy with what he heard.
“He’s (bin Laden) a monster. I’m glad they got him,” Giordano explained. “But I don’t think it’s gonna make that much of a difference for these people. I’m sure he’s got other people underneath him. It’s not gonna stop.”
Betta Borrelli also said she was happy, but now she wants a major change in the war.
” I want to hear from the President that we’re going to get out of Afghanistan. I want us to get out of Afghanistan now, immediately…The whole point of us being there was to find Osama, we found him, now lets get out of Afghanistan,” Borrelli said.
Robert Hardeman said he was stunned when he heard the news.
“After almost 10 years, you thought this day would never come. But when I heard it, after first being shocked, then happy that at least there’s some justice done in this situation. I don’t think this is the end of our war against terrorism, but it’s a good day. I think it’s something that had to be done,” Hardeman said.
