Macon Resident Signs for Healthcare Insurance, Affordable Care Act Now in Effect
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Affordable Care Act is in effect.
Now, millions of Americans have until January 1, 2014 to sign-up for healthcare insurance.
Macon resident Nancy Hicks says the new law makes a big difference for her family’s health.
“I’m really happy,” Hicks says, “At first I was grim and my husband was saying ‘Nancy, we got to get some insurance,’ but I didn’t know we could call the call center.”
Hicks refers to the Healthcare Marketplace-a website millions of Americans are using to purchase their new insurance.
Bryan Forlines with Central Georgia Health System says the Affordable Care Act, like previous government laws passed, need time for improvement.
“If people give it time, and let the law get fixed and improved, I think people will really like it and they’ll think it much like Medicare-where people will have coverage that don’t have coverage now,” says Forlines.
He adds more than 800,000 middle Georgians live without any health insurance.
Hicks says now her family members can afford primary care without any worries.
