$7,000 relocation incentive being offered to attract new residents to Macon
Choose Macon will give ten families a $7,000 package to move to Middle Georgia.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce is looking to continue strengthening the economic growth in the city of Macon, and a new partnership is adding an enticing incentive for newcomers with $7,000 worth of relocation incentives.
Jessica Walden, President and CEO of the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, calls it an opportunity to showcase Macon as a place where you can make your mark.
“It’s really an opportunity for our entire community to see our population increase,” she said. “To bring new ideas, new people and new faces into town who are going to frequent our businesses, who are going to put their kids in our public school system, who are going to invest their time, their volunteer hours, their dollars into our local community, and that’s how Macon thrives.”
The “Choose Macon” initiative, which has been in operation for several years, aims to recruit and retain talent. Recently, the Chamber partnered with MakeMyMove, an organization specialized in helping people relocate to different cities across the U.S.
Co-founder Evan Hock says there are millions of remote workers seeking a change, especially from areas like California, New York, Texas, and Florida, where many feel that their quality-of-life isn’t what it used to be due to high costs and overcrowding.
The program will select only ten families to receive a $7,000 package designed to ease the transition to Macon. This includes a $2,500 relocation cash stipend, along with additional incentives such as gym memberships, downtown parking passes and gift cards to local restaurants.
Walden says the initiative isn’t only about attracting new residents, but also about developing opportunities for existing community members.
“That doesn’t mean that they’re coming into your home, but they may be coming into your school system,” she said. “They may be coming into the place where you frequent business. They may actually help a small business owner here by becoming a future customer. They may become part of our workforce. So this isn’t about pushing anyone out, It’s about growing within.”
To be eligible for the program, applicants must be employed full-time, able to relocate, earn a household income of at least $65,000 and be at least 18 years old. Walden hopes these new residents will create fulfilling lives in Macon.
“Macon offers a high quality of life, a low cost of living and a central location,” Walden said.
