Macon Public Works Director Fired
Macon Director of Public Works, Richard Powell was fired on Friday.
Public Works Chairman and City Council Member Lonnie Miley speaks out and says he was not aware of any issues and has yet to be informed of this decision.
“I think that it is typical of the administration to disrespect Council and Council Chairs when it comes to informing them of what’s going on the other side of the hall. Also, I have not yet been told who will be the acting interim public works director.”
Miley learned of Powell’s termination during a brief conversation with the former Director of Public Works himself. Powell served in the position for a little more than two years before he was placed on paid leave, then fired last week.
Miley does not know why Powell was fired, but says Powell is strongly considering an appeal. As Public Works Chairman, Miley is responsible for approving department directors
“You’d think it would be common courtesy to inform the chairman overseeing that department.”
