MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Members of the Middle Georgia Democratic Socialists of America marched in downtown Macon Wednesday night in response to the recent killing of Alex Pretti and what organizers describe as ongoing violence tied to federal immigration enforcement.

Organizers say the march traveled from City Hall to the federal courthouse as part of a broader call for change.

Julie Rosa Colton, co-chair of the Middle Georgia DSA, says the march was intended to draw attention to concerns surrounding immigration enforcement and to encourage local organizing.

“We marched from City Hall down to the federal courthouse in protest of the killing of Alex Pretti and the ICE violence that we have been seeing all across the country,” Colton said. “People are fed up with seeing people die every other week on their screens, and this is a way to get information out and organize locally.”

Organizers say hundreds of people committed to taking part in the march. They plan to continue holding community meetings focused on organizing at the local level. They’ll hold a meeting this Saturday at 3 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, located at 1290 College Street in Macon.
