Macon Pops celebrating “Songs of the Soul” with concert tonight
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Tonight at 7:30, the Macon Pops orchestra will be performing their latest concert at the Macon City Auditorium on Cherry Street in downtown Macon.
The concert, called “Songs of the Soul”, is a collaboration with hip hop artist Floco Torres and will combine musical genres that are not usually associated with a symphony orchestra.
“This particular show is going to highlight the talent we have in our community,” said Macon Pops co-founder and CEO Steve Moretti, “We’re taking our audience on a journey through R&B, hip hop, gospel, and soul music.”
Fellow Pops co-founder, Matt Catingub, was also excited about the prospect of melding such different musical styles, “This is not only the first time we’ve done this, but as far as I know, not a lot of orchestral organizations have attempted to marry in particular hip hop and rap.”
“It’s also an education,” Catingub continued, “Has it been done? No, I don’t believe it has. This is for Macon, especially created for all of us here.”
Table seats are sold out, but balcony seating is still available for $20. Students can get those same tickets for $10.
