Macon Political Activist Irving Martinez Dies at 51

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon political activist Irving Martinez died Sunday morning, that’s according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Martinez was 51-year-old. Jones says he is not releasing the cause of death until he reaches next of kin.

Martinez ran for District 2 commissioner in the newly consolidated Macon-Bibb government and he was also a candidate for state senator in 2012. He spoke out against Macon Mayor Robert Reichert and the Macon Police Department during the officer involved shooting incident at a Kroger in December 2012.

Jones say Martinez was originally from New York. Jones says his death isn’t “suspicious.”
