Macon Police, Mayor Planning News Conference to Discuss Next Steps in Kroger Shooting Case
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A news release from Macon police spokesperson Jami Gaudet says the mayor met with the Macon police department Tuesday afternoon to discuss the Kroger shooting incident.
The meeting comes after Bibb County District Attorney David Cooke announced no charges will be filed against the officer who shot and killed Sammie Davis Junior outside of the Kroger Pio Nono Avenue in December 2012.
A joint relase from the mayor’s office and MPD, states a news conference is being arranged between the two to inform the community on the next steps in this case.
“This is a tragic event for the families of everyone involved, especially those grieving the loss of a loved one,” says Mayor Reichert. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with those directly connected, and our hearts remain heavy at the loss of life.”
MPD will conduct an internal shooting review that is expected to take 10 to 14 days to complete. Deputy Chief Mike Carswell says this is the next step in the process.
“Now that the District Attorney has determined there was no criminal misconduct, we will conduct an internal Shooting Review and an analysis of whether all applicable Macon Police Department policies and procedures were followed,” says Deputy Chief Mike Carswell.
The release also states, “it will also include how we can improve community relations, especially as it relates to the Macon Police Department.”
