Macon Police Chief Mike Burns to Retire

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon Police Chief Mike Burns announced Friday night- he plans to retire next month. 41NBC received a release from Macon Police spokeswoman Melanie Hofmann Friday night about the decision.

Burns has been with the department since December 7, 1974, and when he retires on May 31, he will have served for 38 years and five months. He’s been Chief of Police for the past eight.

Current Deputy Police Chief Mike Carswell will be interim police chief until December 31, when Macon Police will merge into the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office as part of consolidation.
