Macon pet owner responds after dog attack injures couple
Macon-Bibb Animal Control says a neighbor caught the dog. After nearly a day of searching , the neighbor put the dog in a crate in his backyard after it apparently killed their cat.
The dog belongs to Macon attorney Veronica Brinson.
“These dogs are not vicious dogs. I’m sorry for what ever may have occurred,” Brinson said.
She spoke to 41NBC about the incident.
“We don’t know who instigated the incident. We don’t how it started. We don’t even know the individuals. We’re not laying the blame. We’re not jumping the gun,” Brinson said.
According to a Bibb County Sheriff’s report, the dogs attacked Claudia Naranjo and her puppy while they were on a walk. She and her husband, Jose Munoz, were visiting friends for the holidays. Jose saw the attack and tried beating the dogs off of his wife.
Brinson, who hasn’t lived at the house on Brookefield Drive since it went up in flames this summer, finds it hard to believe her dogs were aggressive.
“Our animals are well taken care of and they are not violent creatures. They are very, very friendly animals,” Brinson said.
After breaking away, Jose went to grab two knives from the house where he was staying and stabbed the dogs.
41NBC tried speaking with Jose on camera. His lawyer recommended he didn’t, but he did say he and his wife are heartbroken about the loss of their dog.
He and his wife were injured in the attack.
“We care about all people. We don’t want anyone hurt, but we don’t want any situations created at our expense,” Brinson said.
She says she’ll wait until the investigation is complete before looking into taking any legal action.
All three dogs were taken to the vet in Perry to assess their injuries.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a dog attack that happened on Millwood Court on Monday at around 8:30 a.m.
According to Lt. Sean Defoe with the sheriff’s office, three dogs attacked an out-of-town woman while she was walking her dog.
The woman was bitten trying to fight off the dogs. Her cocker spaniel was killed during the attack. Authorities say her husband showed up and attempted to chase the dogs off with his car. He was bitten when he exited the vehicle.
Two of the three dogs have been found. Macon-Bibb Animal Control is still searching for the third.
Defoe says the dogs escaped a wooden fence of a home owned by attorney Veronica Brinson.
Brinson emailed 41NBC the following statement. It says in part:
It is our belief that the story reported is not accurate. It is our understanding that someone came onto the property located at 140 Brookefield Drive, Macon, Georgia and stabbed a puppy. It is also our understanding that another dog is missing. It is our belief that the missing dog may have been killed. It is our understanding that a visitor in the neighborhood may have committed the above acts as it relates to the above. We too have sought the assistance of the Bibb County Sheriff Department to assist us.
No dogs/puppies are trained to kill by any member of my family or myself. My son’s dogs are pets and are not violent dogs. These dogs have been very loving pets.
We believe that our gates have been tampered with and that someone may have trespassed on the property. We have been experiencing many problems in the subdivision.
The couple was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators are looking into charges being filed.
