Macon Outreach feeds the homeless a holiday feast

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -More than 500 homeless people were treated to a holiday luncheon, thanks to volunteers of Macon Outreach at Mulberry.

The Wednesday luncheon kicked off with music inside the sanctuary at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church.

The special guest packed into the church to hear a message of hope.

After the service they dined in the fellowship hall for a holiday meal with all the the trimmings.

Macon Outreach at Mulberry’s Executive Director, Johnny Hathcock, says seeing all of the people reminded him why they reach out to the community.

“How grateful we are that God knows who we are and God leads us and we are grateful for all of His love,” says Hathcock.

Helms College culinary students prepared the holiday meals.  Nearly 70 volunteers from local churches participated in serving the homeless.

The outreach church ministry started almost 40 years ago with two women.
