Macon Mayhem hockey players read to Bernd Elementary students
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Mayhem is teaching kids the importance of an education.
The Southern Professional Hockey League athletes visited Bernd Elementary Tuesday afternoon. They read and played hockey with students. The team’s goalie thinks it’s important for kids to see their role models supporting their education.
“Education is important. No matter who you are. A lot of kids play sports and when they grow up, they all want to be their favorite athletes. To do that, you have to go to college and, obviously, to go to college you have to have good grades,” said Garrett Bartus.
Aside from helping students set academic goals, the players also taught them about hockey.
