Macon Man Sentenced for Supplying Equipment to Iran

A Macon man who supplied Iran’s military with equipment is sentenced to more than three years in prison and has to pay more than $100,000 in restitution.

Michael Todd was sentenced today for shipping fighter jet and attack helicopter parts to help Iran’s aircraft fleet. Todd pleaded guilty in June to illegally exporting the parts. A second man from chicago was also sentenced to prison.

US Attorney Michael Moore says local crimes that threaten national security are more common than we might think.

“We need to be vigilant when we think about national security–even though we live in what some folks might call a small town, we need to think about national security even here,” Moore says. “I would say if you know something, tell us. And nothing’s too small–sometimes, even one little piece of thread will unravel a whole plot, and that’s what happened here.”

Moore says he believes justice has been served in this case, and credits that to a solid joint operation from several law enforcement agencies.
