Macon Man Dies in House Fire off Gray Highway

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man is dead after a fire broke out at a home in East Macon.

According to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones, 60 year old Horace Maddox died from smoke inhalation.

Around 12pm on Sunday a call came in to the Macon-Bibb Fire Department. Firefighters responded to a 853 Northern Street near Fincher’s Barbecue off Gray Highway.

“When they arrived the house in my rear was fully engulfed… They found a black male in the bathroom,” says Jones.

Jones pronounced him dead on the scene.

Maddox’s family was also there watching as firefighters tamed the flames. His younger brother told 41NBC Maddox was one of 11 siblings.

Jones says other people lived with Maddox, but he was home alone during the fire. He says an autopsy will be done.

Arson investigators were on the scene. There’s still no word on the cause of the fire.
