Macon LGBTQ advocate dead at 63

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A staple in the Macon LGBTQ community has died.

Tangerine Summers was one of Macon’s most well-known drag queens with a career that spanned more than several decades.

Tributes to the late LGBTQ advocate flooded social media throughout the day on Thursday and Friday, with one close friend speaking with us about what she meant to Macon.

“I can’t imagine the Macon LGBT community with Tangerine in it,” says Scott Mitchell, President of Macon Pride.

Mitchell says Macon Pride is working on celebrating the life of Summers during the Macon Pride Festival later this month.

No funeral details have been released.

Summers was 63-years-old.
