Macon Labor Day Road Race Brings Thousands

The streets of downtown Macon were filled with cheering fans and tons of fun Labor Day morning.

The 35th Annual Macon Labor Road Race brought more than 2,000 runners to the area.

“I had to run for the whole time and I got a little bit sweaty,” says 6-year-old runner Cade Fuller.

Florida Mercer says she has been training everyday for months.

“I wanted to give up, but I just couldn’t. I trained too hard,” says Mercer.

Mixed in with the runners, were service men Jeffrey Johnson and Alex Rozier. They ran with packs filled with 50 pound sandbags.

“You got to learn how to stabilize the pack on your back and try not to fall over and watch the little curbs,” says Johnson.

86-year-old Violet Carden says the race didn’t seem hard at all. Running is what makes her feel alive.

“I feel so blessed that Jesus has given me the strength to run,” says Carden.
