Macon in Top 5 in Nation for Use of See-Click-Fix

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The city of Macon Public Works Department is now ranked in the top five in the nation for their quick response to addressing problems using the Internet program, “See-Click-Fix.”

Macon resident, Josh Rogers, walks his dog on Ross Street every morning. Two weeks ago he noticed a broken street lamp, so he decided to try the “See-Click-Fix” app on his phone. He stopped, took a picture, pressed a button, and continued his walk.

“The next morning it was completely cleaned up, they put a cone where the street light was, and hopefully they’ll bring it back repaired pretty soon,” says Rogers.

The “See-Click-Fix” program allows Macon residents to send requests to public works through the Internet. Since the city launched the program in April, Assistant Director of Solid Waste Management, Larry Dunning, says nearly 5,000 requests have come in, and public works has resolved about 4,200.

Dunning says they’ve spread the requests among nine directors in the office, and 140 workers on the street. His department handles mainly debris, and dead animal cleanup.

“We did not increase staff to make this happen. We simply took what we had and districbuted the information to everybody that had a part to play,” says Dunning.

Dunning says majority of the problems reported through “See-Click Fix” are pretty simple. He says his department gets a ton of requests to replace broken garbage cans.

“On the street side there’s pothole repairs there’s cutting in rights of ways.”

These issues that are being addressed daily. Rogers says, it’s great to “see” the program works.

“You don’t really have an excuse, it’s so fast and so simple, and you could enjoy it cause you’re walking around the next day and it’s fixed.”

Currently, Macon is ranked number four and Bibb County  is ranked 6th out of the 80 communities nation-wide who use See-Click-Fix. Bibb County does have it’s own separate program, but a lot of the reported problems over-lap between the city and the county.
