Macon Homeless Donation Stations Raise $1,000 in First Month

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Since the Leadership Macon Class of 2012 transformed its class project from idea to reality on November 15th, its donation stations have been hard at work.

“We’ve raised just about $1,000 in the meters throughout town,” says Jonathan Dye, president of the class.

A thousand dollars?  That’s enough money to buy 2,000 meals, 800 bus tickets or provide 100 nights of lodging for someone living on the streets.  The money will go to the Macon Coalition to End Homelessness.

“Loaves and Fishes, Macon Outreach, Daybreak, Salvation Army–different organizations like that are all members there,” says Dye.

Dye says extraordinary to see people come together for a good cause.

“We’re just really happy that people are donating to the project, that they’re getting behind this and that they’re learning more about the homeless issue and how they can help to end homelessness in Macon, Georgia.”

The grant process will take a while to complete, but once all the paperwork is finished, the first
round of funds from the donation stations will be distributed.

That could be as early as this spring.
