Macon Habitat for Humanity Celebrates 75th New Home Owner

It has been 25 years, and 75 homes since the Macon Area Habitat for Humanity began building new houses in Bibb and Jones Counties.

Today’s celebration gave the new house keys to Milton Webster, a U.S. Army veteran.

Macon Area Habitat for Humanity organizers began to notice a trend of veterans who needed assistance with getting into a home.

Webster is the second veteran who has received a home, but hopes many more will benefit from this service.

New home owners are required to put 300 ‘sweat hours’ into their house before they can move in. This way they help the building process. But Webster is bound to a wheelchair, so his ‘sweat hours’ were spent working at Macon Habitat’s ReStore, working in the warehouse.

Macon Area Habitat for Humanity is always looking for volunteers to help build houses, donate food and supplies, or even help around the warehouse.
