Macon Giants Are Ready to Batter Up

The Macon Giants are preparing for their third season in middle Georgia. The team’s second home game of the season is Thursday night at the Ed DeFore Complex. Head Coach Jay Cranford says his highest hope for this season is to see Macon come out and show their support.

“If we can keep our errors to a minimum, our guys are hitting the ball and we look really sharp and we should be in really good shape.”

The Macon Giants opened the season with a 3 and 0 record. The boys agree their biggest challenge will be the heat.

“We’re not really used to this weather so I think just trying to get through this summer heat during the games is going to be tough at least for me, I know,” said Christopher Amate.

The college players are recruited through recommendations and scouts throughout the Great South League. This summer they’ll work on perfecting their game with Coach Cranford.

“They’re sent to us for the summer to get better and that’s what they’re here for is to get better and be really refreshed when they go back to their colleges.”

After just 2 weeks of playing together, the team says chemistry is what makes them great.

“We got great pitching, great hitting, good fielding, short stops, first basemen, second basemen – all around we’re just solid,” said Adam Boan.

When it comes to this game, the start of the season is a homerun, no matter who wins.

Boan says, “It’s the best game in the world. Every year you get ready for it, during the winter you’re longing for it and in the spring you smell the grass and you smell the ball park and it’s time to play ball.”
