Macon Film Festival ready for busy weekend of movies

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Four Macon theaters are ready for the crowds ahead of the 2017 Macon Film Festival.

Organizers are preparing the summer heat to push people inside.

“There’s nothing better on a hot day than to sit inside a theater and watch some movies,” President of the festival, Julie Wilkerson said. “We start [preparing] really before the festival ends the year before.”

Everything is in place for a busy slate of movies.

“To celebrate film and to celebrate the film maker, and bring the film makers in, introducing them to Central Georgia and what the film industry is doing in Georgia,” Wilkerson said.

The festival kicks off Thursday with a full dome film at the Museum of Arts & Sciences.

“This is an extra special thing for our area,” Wilkerson said.

Douglass Theatre, Cox Capital Theatre, Theatre Macon, and the CVB, all opening their doors for the festival. The festival’s headquarters is at Travis Jean downtown. You can buy tickets and get help there.
