Macon couple dies in house fire

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon man was killed when his home went up in flames around 5 p.m. Friday afternoon.

His wife was pronounced dead at the Medical Center of Central Georgia at 8:11 p.m., according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

The victims have been identified as 81-year-old’s Luther and Daisy Crump.

The fire happened at the Crump’s home located at 911 Ell Street. Fire crews remain at the scene as investigators work to determine the cause.

By the time firefighters arrived on the scene, a fire chief told 41NBC Luther Crump had already died.

“When we arrived we pulled one lady from the house,” said Macon-Bibb County Fire Battalion Chief Preston Thomas. “They said it was two people in the house. The gentlemen we found later in a back room.”

A witness 41NBC spoke with spotted the house on fire.

“I saw white smoke, the house was just blazing in flames,” said 16-year-old Kezion Pace. Pace has lived in the neighborhood for three years, and knew the elderly couple.

“They were nice people,” added Pace. ” I would see them outside playing with their grandkids or something like that talking with friends having a good time.”
